The day that was....fulfilling

Yep.At last a fulfilling day after coming back to KGP.

Yesterday I got my computer up and running(it has to be put that way,because of the unorthodox way that my comp came into existence!!!).Only the monitor had to be connected and there it was.Up and ready...all the 8GB required for putting it on sharing...And as a new comp would,this did have its effect on me...requiring me to sleep at 4:30am today morning.

Well,all this intro to enter 'The Day', the 4th of January,2007.So,it began. And as the new Spring semester time table would have it, our class starts at 7:30 am. It required some efforts from friends to wake me up.A mere 2 hr sleep is extremely insufficient on a winter day.

Well it was PDS(Programming and Data structures) class and I didn't want to miss the class.So up and quickly to the class 'we' went.And the class was far below expectations and the day seemed far from what the post-head says.The class was followed by Mechanics,another subject that I hated through my class 11 and 12.It only made things worser.But only until the next prof came.What was expected to be a boring lecture on SHM turned out to be very interesting more due to the way it was being treated...'damped oscillations really give beautiful graphs' was what I was thinking midway.A one hour break was given with perfect timing and it was a relaxing period topped with an interaction with a senior. Now a class in the new GSSST building.Mathematics!!! What would be on offer this semester! It was to be matrices...no simple things these.As words like 'three diagonal matrix' and other words(I don't even remember them now :-/) flew out of the profs mouth it was our turn to stare back at him in excitement(and for some,disgust...lol...god save those who hate math and took up engineering).Phew!One hour passed by and we were back to our hall for lunch.

No afternoon classes only meant I would not give up the seat in front of the comp and so it was to be.

Back in KGP with a comp is proving to be a real good thing.With an obvious distraction being the network gaming scene here it is to be seen if I give into the temptation.

This semester has unwoven itself beautifully and it is to be seen what it has to give me (and what I have to give up...fun!?).With Kshitij and Spring Fest lined up back to back in Feb., surely this is a semester to watch out for!

And to end this post in my style(hope to develop one with this blog and post),I must tell you some geek humor...

The Post Amidst

Hmmm....there is this need to get a new post on my blog in response to some excellent posts on Pranesh's and a new blog I got to read...some one calling herself 'Dark Angel'

This post has a time constraint and needs to be written within 30 mins so there wont be any great material to be read.

This is the last post before I return to Kharagpur.

As I said,this is a post in response to my reading activity if I can put it that way.

So...here's a observation...awesome templates are enough for a blog to get readers returning for quite a few times but old posts do need an explanation.I'm talkin abt Dark Angel's blog....the blog template is brilliant.Awesome...I'll definitely check it out again but the last post is dated 31st October.

Well,the time constraint acts and here's the end of this post written only with the only desire to have a 'not-so-old' post on my blog.

Back from NCC....and back to Hyd'bad

It has been a long time since a post and this is just a used opportunity to insert one in till the next post which will be made on 4th January(watch out).

Thsi post is beinbg written in so much frust and dissappointment caused by the response to the last post which, so carefully and passionately written produced better feedback from automated softbots than from conscious human creatures.

The response I'm talkin abt is taht my post has been noted and cantent taken for use in a page with address http://blog.canadianjobforum.com/blogs/engine-jo-bsearch/ .The page does not exist as of now but atleast it got some credit........

It is so difficult to get a blog to get going and earn some reputation...thats what Ive learnt in thsi 3 month experience....well this blog will continue for a real long time so basically this -in response to frust' post will end here for this is the optimal length for frust posts(;-) intelligently found out by solving partial differential eqns of 7th order involving 4.75E45 variables...stupidity all over).

The Big G and Semantic search: Commercial success vs QoS

As years passed, it grew and the world took notice: the PhD. project by Larry page and Sergey Bin that eventually became the fastest growing project ,so fast that the Goliath at play,Microsoft ,had to take notice even though its market capitalisation was much much more than Google's.

Not very long ago i read an article on Google effort on semantic search and the effort it is putting in.But in practice I dont find anything...really.In fact I am feeling that the percentage relavance of the search terms to the the search results is sometimes alarmingly low.

Example:
Do a search for Microsoft and lo! the third result is about Internet Explorer 5.5 and the change in its URL.

And something more annoying (for me atleast).A search for India would give the first result as http://indiaimage.nic.in with the Wikipedia entry coming in second and the link we all hope should come first- the National Portal of India-http://india.gov.in coming in a very distant 7th.

And Google needs to get rich ,may be, but that does not mean Google ads give extraordinarily STUPID results.The search for 'the most searched word on The Net' (I could easily mention it if not for the fear of Mighty G listing my page in 'blog search' results for The Word) would get you a Google Ad for Children's furniture.That was a month ago...now that its a month let me check it out for you and ......Ahem! The results:
1.Girls Speak Out( Nothing explicit about this)
2.Hypersexuality -supposedly a research.
3.Something banned on EBay (Google does a good job here.Call the police please.Help the country ;-) ,and yourself)
4.Racing , Action and Cricket gaming titles.
5.Web Photo Album software.

Well,if Google calls this 'effort' and 'semantic search' ,then I guess it would get a little unhappy for those celebrating GOOG hitting $400 on NASDAQ.

As Google gets bigger and expectations grow for compulsive Googlers like me(One line explanations later,even for that QoS),it needs to work harder and smarter.

GoogleBot better watch out as Excavator is workin real hard to get close and might succeed.
